Total Distance : 210 kms (approx.)
Highest Point : 1,990 meters
Total Time : 6 + hours (approx.)

We ride to Bedugul for about an hour along the main mountain road which is relatively straight until the last 5 kms which sweep majestically through the pass at the very top and drop down to Lake Bratan, the first of the area’s three mountain lakes. Bedugul is famous for a few things; a bustling fruit and vegetable market, botanical gardens, mountain lakes and strawberries.

Nestled in the crater of an extinct volcano, Bedugul has long been a preferred escape from the tropical heat of the lowland and beach areas. Sitting at approximately 1,400 meters above sea level lush pine forests create a distinctly alpine feel, except for the classic Balinese temples seemingly floating in the lake, the most famous of which is Pura Ulun Danu.

Bedugul is also home to one of the best golf courses in Bali at The Bali Handara Golf and Country Club; a truly spectacular setting for any golf course. But we are not here to play golf or para-sail on the lakes. We are here to ride one of the best roads on the island. So after a quick pit stop at the Café Teras we saddle up and head out of town towards Singaraja taking a sharp left to Munduk.

The Munduk road was built for bikes! At the top of the pass the beauty of Bedugul’s two other lakes (Buyan and Tamblingan) comes into full view with stunning drop offs before heading to the north coast. A series of tight twisties threads through hidden hills and valleys joining the main road from Pupuan to Seririt and bordering the west coast national park. Simply stunning.

The temperature changes dramatically at Munduk and the heat of the tropical sun once again takes over all the way to Bali’s north coast at Seririt. From here we follow the coast line east heading towards Lovina and Singaraja with a lunch stop on the beach.

A quick petrol stop after lunch gets us ready for the insane twisties back to Bedugul; a perfect opportunity to scratch, get the rubber hot and end up back in Bedugul with smiles wider than Cheshire Gorge!

The final leg of the ride takes us down the mountain from Bedugul and back to Denpasar and Seminyak. It’s been a long day but well worth every beautiful second!

Total ride time is approximately 6 - 7 hours with stops along the way for light refreshments, lunch and photo stops.
